Pinar (1975) wrote The Method of Currere, a method that allows us to explore what we have conceptualized through time, the complex relation between the temporal and conceptual, thus we can discover our self, its evolution and education (p. 19).
After reading, The Method of Currere (Pinar,1975) reflect on the stages and discuss what you think the process will let you discover.

The Method of Currere is based on the evaluation that an individual can go through while teaching in order to positively enhance his or her way of teaching, techniques or any other problem that may occur. This process is based on different stages. The first stage is Regressive which requires the person to go back into the past and think about what he or she has done. This stage is advantageous because in many cases we may act unconsciously because some of our actions have become habitual responses. Through this process we may see how our past has influenced our present. However, at this point the person should not try to interpret the past. The second stage is Progressive in which the individual who is in the present thinks about what the future may bring. This stage is very important because the person is able to meditate what interests are important in his or her life and how this influences their present and future life. Additionally, through this stage the person is able to have a small vision of what the future may bring. The following stage is called Analytical in which the person is able to describe the present, the past, and the future. Through this process the person does not interpret but rather describes with details what the person sees and the relationship among the past, the present, and the future. Finally, the last stage is Synthetical. During this stage, the person looks more deeply at him or herself and thinks about the meaning of the present and their contribution to the world. Overall, the whole process helps us understand ourselves at a deeper level. At the same time, it helps us recognize more our interests, our way of doing specific tasks, and what we want in our future. If a person goes through this process, he or she is able to evaluate his or her life as well as how he or she has influenced the lives of others. Finally, the individual is more prepared to handle the future.
ReplyDeleteThe Currer Process consists of four steps: the regressive, progressive, analytical, and synthetical. In the regressive stage, it records educational experience (past) in the future. In the progressive stage, it offers possibilities for the future. In the analytical stage, it describes present educational experience and then seeks the individuality. In the synthetical stage, it attempts to extract the existential meaning of the present and integrate or re- enters the knowledge gained in the previous stage. The process reduces the distance between the researcher and subject by outlining the past, present, and future. As we read Pinar (1975) concerns on curriculum as currere which as a relation between knowledge, self-understanding, and social reconstruction. In other words, it focuses on are life experience related to social reconstruction. In my opinion the process will let us discover a dialectical thinking to interact in an effective way with are students. For example, teachers could modify curriculum as content or subject matter into the meaningful learning experiences of the students.
ReplyDeleteThe currere method is a method by which educators can reconceptualize the meaning of curriculum By taking our own experience as a data source. The method consists of four steps. the regressive, progressive, analytical, and synthetical. In the regressive step,we define our educational experiences in the future. In the analytical stage, we describe whats going on in the present educational experience In the synthetical stage, we try to take out to meaning of the present and integrate the three forms of intellect into a comprehensive way that includes the physical Person .So basically this methods goes through present, past and future.
ReplyDeleteThe Currere method is basically that while we teach, we are constantly changing and improving. This process goes through four stages: the Regressive, the Progressive, the Analytical and the Synthetical. The Regressive stage is when a person thinks about past experiences and thinks about how those experiences have affected him/her. The Progressive stage is when the person thinks about what the future can be like, and what things can be changed to better his/her teaching. The Analytical stage is when in which the person is able to describe what he/she sees as their past, present and the future and the relationship among the three time periods. And the last stage is Synthetical stage, a stage in which the person reflects on himself/herself and their surroundings. It serves to better understand ourselves and evaluate how he/she has made a difference in the lives of others.
ReplyDeleteTo my understanding, The Method of Currere is a bit similar to reflective teaching and praxis. We use ourselves as I would say a "lab rat", we are our own experiment. Currere wants me to evaluate my life and the transitions I have gone and will go through in order to boost my teaching skills and curriculum. He divided this is four stages:
ReplyDeleteFirst the regressive stage. This is where I go back to my educational experiences and how that past is still in my present. The second phase is called progressive. This is where I look at myself at this moment in my life and think about what the future has in store for me (in this case it would be my future in teaching). This stage allows me to contemplate my goals and interests, after this step I will be able to judge or evaluate if these aspirations really benefit me or not. Then we have the Analytical phase: This is where I describe my present educational experience and seek the individuality and interrelationship between the past, present and future. The last phase is called Synthetical. Here is when I am suppose to obtain the existencial meaning of the present and integrate it with my past and future as a whole. Here I am to reflect on what has been my role in today's world. By using this process I understand it to be an evaluation or your total persona and what you have put to use as a human being.
